Local guide ## A Homeowner's Guide to Roofing in Angus ### Spotting roof problems early in Angus Most roof problems in Angus start small. A single slipped slate, a crack in the lead around a chimney or a blister on a flat roof lets in a little water at first, often into the loft or behind a ceiling where you won't see it. Signs worth looking out for include damp patches or brown stains on upstairs ceilings, a musty smell in the loft, daylight through the roof boards, slates lying in the garden or gutter, moss building up in valleys, and water overflowing from gutters during heavy rain. If you notice any of these, it's worth getting the roof looked at before the next spell of wet or freezing weather makes the problem bigger and the repair more expensive. ### Repair or replace? Honest advice for Angus homes One of the most common questions from Angus homeowners is whether a roof can be repaired or needs replacing. The answer depends on what Craig finds. If the slates, felt and timbers are generally sound and the problem is limited to one area, a targeted repair is usually the sensible choice. If slates are slipping all over the roof, the felt underneath has perished, or a flat roof has been patched repeatedly and keeps failing, a replacement often works out better value over time. Craig takes photos so you can see exactly what he's seeing, explains the options in plain English, and will never push a full replacement when a repair will do the job properly. ### Flat roofs, slate and lead: getting the details right Many leaks in and around Angus come down to details rather than the main roof surface. On flat roofs, it's the edges, upstands and joins where the roof meets a wall. On slate roofs, it's the valleys, ridges and the lead around chimneys, dormers and skylights. Ericht Roofing is an approved installer of Armourplan, Fatra and Sarnafil single-ply membrane systems and holds Level 1 lead welding, so these details are handled with the right materials and methods. Getting them right first time is what lets the work carry guarantees of up to 15 years. ### Getting a quote in Angus To get a free, no-obligation quote, call Craig on 07498 302849, email erichtroofing@hotmail.com, or fill in the quote form on this page with a few details and a photo if you have one.
